Sunday Snippet: Threshold

Seasons' Greetings!

For whatever holiday you celebrate, I hope you have a joyous time filled with cheer and merriment. We'll be low key per usual with a trip to my dad's and hopefully some FaceTime with my brother in Arizona.

The weather is still playing back and forth. We have a bit of snow and it's pretty cold right now. The temps are supposed to warm up into the forties and fifties over the next few days.

Finished up two projects this week and have one on my plate. January looks to be shaping up with multiple projects and I'm so grateful for those. The short break gives me some time to finish getting my side project ready to launch and I hope to do that next week during the holiday.

Only a semi-good week of viewing. I had some big cleaning projects to work on and got a good bit of that completed. Still working on a few others and hope to have them finished before the end of the year.

Watched another episode of Mr and Mrs Murder. I remember parts of this one but hadn't seen the entire episode. Ended up being pretty good.

Also watched an episode of London Kills. The plot thickens regarding the disappearance of David's wife. Looking forward to seeing how that ends up being resolved. Also enjoying Billie so much on this show.

Enjoyed the one hundredth episode of Death in Paradise. So lovely to have Camille back for a brief stay. Also nice to see Spirit Richard. This also marks, in my opinion, when Catherine and Selwyn take on larger roles in the show. Looking forward to rounding out season ten with the last two episodes.

That's it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Threshold, a novella that puts a couple on their path to freedom after years of servitude.

Here's the miniblurb:

Satin Welch takes one look at the gorgeous Blade Killian and has to have him. She purchases his slave contract and grants him freedom. Blade doesn't trust the beautiful woman or her idea to make him a partner on the Threshold, a pleasure ship traveling throughout the galaxy, but he can't quite resist the chance to make his own choices after a decade of sexual servitude.

And a sneaky peek…

Who are you? A great question. One Satin would answer in just a moment. First, she had something very important to do—before Blade ended her life.
She choked out an order. "His collar. Remove his collar." The words gurgled from her throat.
Blade's eyes widened when the circlet of silver fell to the deck. He swooped around, locking an arm around her torso, resting just below her breasts. She held up the controller and he snatched it from her hand but didn't loosen his grip.
Satin dragged in air then nodded toward the device. "I thought you'd like to have the honor of destroying the unit." The next step to calm the raging man.
She hoped.
After shoving her away, Blade dropped the tiny device to the deck and stomped on it. He picked up the collar and threw it against the wall, shattering the thing into pieces. Symbolically, she'd given him his freedom. Now she had to earn his trust.
He spun around. "Again, I ask, who are you and why shouldn't I kill you right now?" His chest heaved with barely controlled emotion.
Satin smiled. "The who is Satin Welch and the why is something we'll get to in a moment, but first—" She crossed to the kitchenette and grabbed a stack of papers.
Taking the first one, she tucked the others under her elbow. She retrieved a handheld mincer.
She returned to his side. "I'm setting you free. This is the purchase contract from the transaction with your former owner." She shredded the pages and let the pieces fall to the ground. "As of this moment, you are no longer a slave."
Blade crossed his arms over his chest. "Why should I believe you?" He clicked his tongue against his teeth. "My first owner did the same thing—yet here I am, ten years later, newly purchased. I've traded one owner for another … again."
Satin lost her patience. "You moron. I didn't buy you, I bought your contract so you can become my business partner." Maybe she'd misjudged his intelligence.
Blade blinked then threw his head back and laughed. "You're amusing yourself, right? You said business, but you mean bed, don't you?" His derisive tone suggested disgust at the thought.
Satin sighed and rolled her eyes. "No, I don't." She gave him a slow once-over. "I certainly wouldn't turn you down, but you'll never be forced to pleasure me—or anyone else—in bed from this moment forward…" She paused a moment. "Unless you want to earn more on the side or you choose to bed someone of your own volition." She tried really hard to make her intention clear and succinct.
If he could get out of his own way enough to see.

I love how this story is coming together. Satin and Blade are interesting characters and I enjoy writing them.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Threshold

The first week of February is pretty much in the books and didn't start off too badly. I ended up with several new projects in my inbox and that never fails to make me happy.

Had a very good week of watching television. Considering we got hammered with a bunch of snow and ice, I'm glad I had power to keep the lights and television on.

I watched a little more of PassionFlix's Seduction and Snacks. Holy crap, the awkwardness is off-the-charts terrific. Kudos to the actors for nailing that down with skill and talent.

I finished up an arc of Classic Who and started a new one. The daleks feature in the current one and Davros. Jury is out on whether I'll like it or not.

Caught two episodes of The Alaska Triangle. Finished the first season and started the second. The Alaska Bigfoot episode ended up being more interesting than I thought it would be and the Dark Pyramid episode completely sucked me in. So many weird and unexplained or completely covered-up bits to unpack and explore.

Watched two episodes of The Muppets. The show is growing on me a little. I'm enjoying having the core group in different surroundings.

Started Harrow on the recommendation of my brother and enjoyed the first two episodes. I'm so curious about the overarching mystery and can't wait to find out more.

Enjoyed two episodes of Peak Practice. Season seven is moving right along and has a bit of a different feel to it. So far, I like it.

Finished up Bill Nye's MasterClass and started a new design class with Es Devlin. I think I'll enjoy her instruction and hopefully get some cool ideas.

Caught the two-part The Witcher: Bestiary shorts from season one. Kind of nice to get names and a bit of the lore behind the monsters.

Watched one of my very favorite episodes of Classic Rugrats with "The Santa Experience." My oldest and I used to watch this holiday episode a lot.

Enjoyed two more episodes of Chicago Med. I'm on the fence with whether or not I like Will and Natalie together. Sometimes I think they're perfect for each other and sometimes I think they're terrible together. I like that I can't decide which way to go on this one.

Caught two more episodes of Snoopy in Space. These are so much fun and I love having the human peanuts as the technical crew for Snoopy and Woodstock.

Enjoyed another episode of The Brokenwood Mysteries. I'm almost finished with the last available season and I really, really hope there will be more.

Watched another two-part Silent Witness and finished out season fifteen. Based on what I read of the episode teasers, sixteen looks like it's Harry-free. I'm a little bummed but also diving into new stuff I haven't seen.

Loved the latest Star Trek: Discovery episode. This show is so good right now. Makes me excited for season two of Picard and the new show that debuts later this year.

Last but not least, I caught another episode of Queens of Mystery. I'm a little bummed about the lack of communication with Daniel and Matilda but slow burns can also be fun. I love the background mystery of Matilda seeking information about her mom's disappearance. Can't wait to find out more about that.

That's it for the weekly television update. Tonight's post is from Threshold, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Satin Welch takes one look at the gorgeous Blade Killian and has to have him. She purchases his slave contract and grants him freedom. Blade doesn't trust the beautiful woman or her idea to make him a partner on the Threshold, a pleasure ship traveling throughout the galaxy, but he can't quite resist the chance to make his own choices after a decade of sexual servitude.

And a sneaky peek…

Blade glanced up when two goons came to collect him from the holding area. "Figures." Of course, the gorgeous woman wouldn't lower herself to personally escort him to his new home.

Determined to not go quietly, he struggled and fought, throwing a punch to the jaw of the tallest guy then whirled and struck the midsection of the other. Both men stepped back and away several times, confusing the hell out of Blade.

He finally goaded them. "Are you too weak-minded to let a man fight?" Could he have no dignity?

The tallest one inclined his chin. "No. But you're too valuable to our boss. You can fight all you want, but we won't engage. My name is Bart, by the way." The man extended his hand.

What the hell? Blade didn't understand. Most owners sent the big guys to make sure Blade got the message and understood the score right away. A beat down usually proved a quick reminder he had no rights.

Blade warily shook Bart's hand. Then did the same with Eugene, the other guy.

Docile for now, Blade followed Bart and Eugene flanked Blade on the left. He expected a lesson before they reached the ship—like in the darkened concourse or on the dimly lit tram. When it didn't come, Blade fought a wave of disappointment. He needed an aggressive release and a physical altercation would do that. A huge head of anger over his circumstances continued to build and he'd need an outlet soon.

The gleaming carrier class ship name Threshold came into view. Once aboard, they glided out of the landing bay with little fanfare. Blade had no idea what to expect but his brain tripped over the richly appointed parlor with a long bar on one side and a stage on the other. Plush furniture, placed in intimate seating arrangements dotted the rest of the space.

It didn't take long for the puzzle pieces to fall into place. "A flying brothel? I'm to be a stud of galactic proportions now?"

His keepers didn't respond but led him through an open hatch to a corridor with the same lavishly designed decor lined with staterooms on both sides. Blade followed along, but his anger grew with every step he took. Bad enough he had to act as an on-demand cock for his masters. But at least he knew what to expect at the palatial residences.

Out in space with millions of ports? Would he be servicing aliens now? So many nefarious images ran through his head he slammed into the back of the mercenary—Blade had been with enough military men to know both were soldiers in a former life. Bart frowned, but only opened the door and preceded Blade into the room—no, two-level suite. Eugene remained outside the open door probably to halt any attempt at escape.

Blade's gaze scanned the area, a very masculine decor with warm wood tones and earthy greens and beiges. A sitting area with entertainment monitors opened into a sleeping chamber and a small kitchenette sat nestled into an alcove. Two other doors on the lower level, one he assumed to be a bathroom took up space along the other wall. The upper level had a gaming area and another sitting area and two enclosed rooms. A gilded cage.

Standing in the middle of the living area, he turned to face Bart. "What am I doing here? Who am I supposed to service?" Hell, maybe he should ask what instead of who.

Neither man responded, but a door opened behind Blade and he whirled around to face his new owner. The gorgeous woman had changed into a gauzy tunic with molded leggings and her curvy body tempted him—but only for a moment—before his rage took over.

He lunged for her, wrapping one hand around her throat. "Why am I here?" He expected her to struggle or for him to be hit from behind.

The woman held up a hand, silently directing her goons to stay back while she held Blade's gaze.

Blade tightened his grip. "Who the hell are you?" And why am I reacting this way?

I really love the way this one is coming together. I'm going a little out of my comfort zone but I have so much fun writing this. I hope everyone enjoys it when it's complete.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Threshold

We're entering the next to last month of the year… how did ten months already fly by? I got some scary news earlier in the week. My younger sibling had a major heart attack while at work and ended up having surgery to put stents in. He's actually doing terrific, considering it's one of the worst types of cardiac infarctions. I'm so very grateful I still have him around.

Needless to say, television viewing ended up being limited this week. The Last Ship killed off one my favorite characters and I’m still mourning that loss. Thankfully, The Flash had a pretty terrific episode and I love the introduction of meta-tech. Arrow is doing a great job of keeping me interested. I didn't know how I'd end up liking the whole prison angle, but I'm very satisfied with how it's playing out. Legends of Tomorrow remains excellent. I'm always surprised by how fast the hour flies by when I'm watching.

I caught another episode of The Sarah Conner Chronicles. I'm about halfway through the season and the end is being shaped. I truly forgot how much I loved this show. Also caught another episode of Birds of Prey. Stylistically, I love how this series plays out on the screen. Caught another episode of Lexx and completely forgot about Stan's trial. I actually enjoyed this one.

Doctor Who's episode with spiders ended up being pretty good. I'm never sure how I'll take to episodes with creepy-crawly things. Somewhat disappointed there won't be a Christmas special this year but having a New Year's show could be fun. We'll see.

Got another episode of Pensacola Wings of Gold in. Enjoyed seeing how that one played out. I'm almost finished with the first season and I'm not sure if I'll continue on because it seems like the second series has an almost entirely new cast. I'll watch a few episodes and see what happens.

Caught another Hallmark movie, Hannah's Law. Ended up being pretty decent. I watched mainly for Greyston Holt, a favorite actor of mine.

Rounded out the week with some classic television marathons. The Saint throughout the week and Burke's Law this weekend.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Threshold, a novella that started with a two-word prompt of "not yet". The sages jumped on this one and I had the brainstormed story idea written out in record time.

Blade Killian had three women close to the edge of orgasm. The first rode his cock, rocking her hips hard and fast. The second poised above his face, his tongue working magic over her clit. And the third had three of his fingers scissoring deep within her dripping pussy. All were gasping and moaning their pleasure, begging him for more.
Blade hated the multiple partner bookings, but he kept his clients satisfied and tended to get stuck with at least two per day. He'd grown so tired of being a stud. Of being used as a fuck toy for both sexes. His owner lavished the best clothes, products, and food upon Blade, but he'd rather be free. Ten years of servitude with no way out. He'd been taken at the age of sixteen by a gang of slave traders and didn't see any end in sight.
The woman riding his dick shuddered through a powerful orgasm, her nails raking his pectoral muscles, drawing blood. She leaned forward and licked a droplet, grinding her hips a few more times before dismounting.
She grasped his erect length. "Well, my goodness, look at you, still rock hard and ready to go." Her hand fisted around his girth and she gave it a painful squeeze. "Don't think I'm enough woman for you? Too good to drain your balls inside me? Maybe I should—"
The woman riding his face cut off the other's tirade. "Great universe, Fenley. Can't you see he's busy and can't respond?" She made a low moaning sound. "If you're so damned worried about his balls, why don't you stuff your mouth with his dick and try your luck that way." She huffed out a gasp. "Mmmm, lover, keep sucking my clit. Feels soooo good." Her knees tightened, pinning his head between them, limiting his movement.
Fenley snorted. "Not a bad idea, Bidgie. I'll suck him dry." Her head lowered and she enveloped his cock between her lips.
She'd be sorely disappointed when she couldn't get him to come. He never did with multiple partners. Not lately. Something about the mix of herbs his owner forced down his throat when he had two or more clients kept him from finding his release, usually for several hours. And when he did finally get off, he had so much semen it sometimes hurt to expel the creamy fluid.
The third woman shuddered and writhed, grabbing hold of his wrist and lifting her hips up and down. She gasped and moaned, then collapsed, spent and sated. Blade withdrew his fingers, flexing the digits to relieve the cramping.
Bidgie finally stiffened then trembled with her release. Her knees dug into the sides of his head, making his ears pop with the pressure.
She rolled sideways and planted a wet kiss on the third woman's lips. "Mmm, Marcia. He's deliciously skilled, isn't he?"
From the corner of his eye, he watched the women maneuver into a position where they could orally pleasure each other.
Fenley continued to suck and slaver all over his cock. The grip of her mouth and sting of her teeth on the sensitive skin had him bucking to get her away from him. She grabbed hold of his balls, twisting them hard and he shot up, growling in pain.
She spit his shaft out and slapped him. "You insolent bastard. Who do you think you are?" Flinging herself from the bed, she stalked across the room, her chest heaving with anger.
Bidgie and Marcia stopped their sexual exploration and slanted glances between Blade and Fenley.
Bidgie frowned. "Fenley, why don't you join us? We still have thirty minutes." She nodded toward Blade. "He can do all three of us round robin style."
Fenley snarled. "I don't think so, Bidge. This stud for hire needs to be taught a lesson."
Her hand pulled one of the inset drawers open. She fished around for a moment, brought out a riding crop and slapped it against her palm.
Taking a menacing step forward, she sneered. "I'm going to whip his cock into a frenzy and beat the cum from his balls."
A red haze of rage settled over Blade and he snapped, leaping from the mattress and putting his hands around Fenley's throat. "You won't lay a hand on me." He'd snap her neck before she could succeed.
Marcia squeaked with fear and pulled the long bell cord, signaling his master's security force. Fenley got one blow in, striking his shoulder with the split end of the whip before he pinned her to the wall with one hand and stripped the crop from her with the other. The doors burst open and a brief shock stung him between his shoulder blades, the jolt sending Fenley and the torture device to the floor. Blade had a flash of satisfaction, knowing the bitch of a woman got a jarring zing from the contact.
A set of hands pushed him to his knees. "Dammit, Blade. Makesh isn't going to ignore this insubordination." Jaym Dervish, the closest thing Blade had to a friend, slipped a collar over his head and tightened the restraint. "You've got to tell him about the side effects of those damned herbs."
The other security agent corralled the women and did his best to soothe the raging beast Fenley turned into, while clucking over Marcia and Bidgie. Jaym dragged Blade toward the door and he met Fenley's angry gaze, holding it until Jaym made the turn into the corridor.
If Blade never saw the shrewish female again, it would be too soon. He didn't care if Makesh beat him or sold him to another master. He could not deal with any more raving madwomen.

I'm very excited about this story. Satin and Blade are damaged by their pasts but also fun to write.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Threshold

So… The Last Ship? Probably one of the best season finales I've seen in a long time. I love this show! Now I have a whole year to wait for new episodes. *sigh*

Not much else on the television front. I'm patiently waiting for my superhero shows to return and watching a lot of new stuff on Netflix. The new season of Longmire is now streaming and I'm two episodes in. I love where things are going so far… stay tuned to see if that changes. LOL

New Doctor Who episodes start the weekend. Can't say I'm super excited to have a new season, but I'll watch and hopefully be surprised. After investing so much time, I'll have to keep current with what's happening.

I also started a beta read on a great story for an author friend. Looking forward to finishing it up this week.

Tonight's post is from Threshold, a novella that's kind of close to my heart. I love the concept of this story and how it's coming together.

"The Court hereby grants Satin Welch the sum of one hundred and fifty million credits and the deed to the cruiser class ship, Threshold." The magistrate glanced up from his order. "By the decree of this Court, the title is free and clear of lien and Madam Welch can use the ship in any way she sees fit." He slapped the gavel down. "So ordered on this date, year, and time."
Satin let out the breath she'd been holding and resisted the urge to shout with glee. Instead, she rose with as much grace as she could muster and walked out of the magistrate's chambers with her shoulders squared and head held high. Her family could no longer touch her, control her, or bring her to heel.
Or use her to garner favors from their debauched and depraved friends.
Nine years of being whored out by her own blood for anything from settling a gambling debt to gaining a seat on a corporate board, she finally got her freedom. Thanks to her great-grandfather who had promised she'd never have to service another rutting cock or salacious couple, unless she chose to do so. He'd kept his word and she now had the means to do whatever she wanted.
And she had just the plan to get underway.
Stepping out into the atrium of the galactic judicial building, she dug her howler out of her inside pocket and dialed a series of numbers.
Her recipient answered on the third beep. "Yeah, Manilow."
Bart Manilow served as a mercenary for hire and she'd grown up with him. His father ran her dad's security service. Bart got along with his parents about as well as she did with hers.
Satin's lips curved in a smile. "Bart? It's Satin. I have a major opportunity for you and five of your closest friends."
Her dream of putting an end to the sex worker slave trade finally within her grasp, she said a silent thank you to her great-grandfather for making it happen.

Satin is so much fun to write. This may end up becoming a full series if the ideas keep pinging in my brain.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.
