Smokin' Hot—Hot Kiss: Boyfriend's Brother

Welcome to the Hot for Friday blog hop!

Greetings!

This week we're tasked with sharing a hot kiss, whether it's slow, eager, passionate, a kiss can be many things. *sigh* Check out the smokin' smooches and enjoy! :D

For my feature, I'm posting a scene from a current release, Boyfriend's Brother, where my main characters land themselves in a tricky dilemma.

For a little background, here's the tagline:

Chloe mixes a potential marriage proposal, a close call, and her boyfriend's hot brother—a heady combination or dangerous concoction.

Bring on the smooches…

They'd talked once, briefly, about relationships. Chloe never thought anyone would want her 'forever'. Didn't think she'd ever be worthy.
She worried her lower lip between her teeth. "I'm scared."
She looked terrified.
Jason's eyes grew wide. "Of Marc?" She couldn't be scared of his brother—the guy worshipped her.
Chloe shook her head back and forth. "Of myself… of screwing it up…" She sighed deeply. "I don't know if I can do forever. Hell, I'm still attracted to other guys." She swung a sultry gaze toward him.
Jason didn't know what to say… so he said nothing.
Chloe moved forward until an inch separated her face from his. "I'm attracted to you." Her eyes were intent on his.
And there he had it… out in the open.
The air became charged.
He didn't fight the magnetic pull drawing him closer to her. Her head drifted slowly forward, her gaze locked on his, and her lips met his… tentatively at first, then with a hunger that threatened to consume him. Exchanging heated kisses, they tore at each other's clothing with frantic movements, trying to remove it with haste. Jason dragged his shirt over his head and threw it across the room, and Chloe pulled hers open losing a couple of buttons when they popped off to land on the floor. Lips met skin when Jason shoved his pants down until he could kick them off to land in front of the table. Chloe quickly undid her jeans, and Jason tugged them down her hips, following their path with a burning trail of kisses.

Book Blurb: Chloe Timmons and Jason McIvey are each at a crossroads.

On what may be her last weekend as 'just a girlfriend', Chloe quells her restlessness by hitting the town and runs into her boyfriend's brother, Jason, a fellow pilot in the area for an air show. A barroom brawl brings them together.

Chloe thinks her boyfriend Marc may propose, and she's not sure she's ready for marriage. Jason has to decide if he's staying in the military or going civilian. When Chloe and Jason spend the night together, it doesn't make either decision easier.

Sunday Snippet: My Best Friend is a Cyborg

Ugh. I've hit the nasty cold wall and did not bounce back. Bleh. I can happily say it's the first really icky cold I've had this winter.

Anyway, on to fun stuff. The third episode of Bitten rocked. I'm looking forward to seeing how different the elements play out from the books. So far, I love the changes. The Flash and Arrow each turned in solid episodes. Have to wait until mid-March for a new episode of The Flash, which is probably a good thing. I'm probably in the minority, but I actually want a lot less Iris. She's not my favorite character.

Tonight's post is from My Best Friend is a Cyborg, a fun little novella where a long standing friendship is tested and a new relationship almost bites the dust.

Here's the tagline:

Ibby Stoke finds out her best friend is a dreaded and reviled cyborg and it sends her into a tailspin, making her wonder if the man she loves is a mecha-human. Phil McNulty is everything she's ever wanted, but if he's not all man, Ibby isn't sure she can deal with the reality.

And a sneaky peek…

Ibby snarled. "Why aren't you fighting? Using your super-strength to put me down?" Her grip tightened around Arthur's throat.
He put his hand over hers and gently squeezed. "Because you're my best friend." His words were garbled due to lack of oxygen.
Ibby didn't relent. "I’m not anything to you. Not anymore." She pushed harder against Arthur's windpipe.
"Ibby! What the flaming hell are you doing?" Strong fingers grasped her bicep, jerking her away from Arthur.
Phil. Dammit.
Art slumped to the floor, dragging in huge gasps of air.
Ibby whirled, facing Phil. "He's a cyborg. A cyborg." She spit the words out, hating the bitter aftertaste they left in her mouth.
Phil's eyes widened and his head whipped around, taking in the sight of Arthur, a tangled heap against the wall.
A stab of satisfaction hit Ibby when Phil's lip curled in a grimace, but it didn't last long.
Phil directed his attention her way again. "Okay, he's a mecha-human. Doesn't give you the right to kill him." He grabbed her arm and spun her toward the exit. "Get out of here, cool off, and pray he doesn't press charges against you."
Ibby stopped short. She hadn't thought about legal repercussions. Then again, she never dreamed her best friend since childhood would turn out to be something she loathed.
Squaring her shoulders, she nodded. "Right. Leaving now." She paused at the exit. "Sorry to leave you with the clean-up." She ducked through the doorway and walked away, finally letting the pain of betrayal and loss take residence in her mind.
My best friend is a cyborg.
Ibby's got some issues and they're only just getting started. J

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flip.

Smokin' Hot—Hot Encounter: Surviving the Trap

Welcome to the Hot for Friday blog hop!

Readers: Enjoy posts from authors with fun weekly tasks or a cool question.

Authors: Get in on the fun and join here.

Greetings!

This week we're tasked with sharing a hot encounter, whether it's the first time or one of many others between the characters. Awesome! As mentioned in last week's post, I'm in Ohio and the subzero temps make reading the hot and steamy even more of a treat. :D

For my feature, I'm posting a scene from a current release, Surviving the Trap, book one of the Top Dog Pilots series.

For a little background, here are the taglines:

Series: Two top pilots, Max Cutter and Maggie Harper, like to mix a little personal with their professional life.

Book: A week of hell pushes Maggie into risking her friendship with Max by sleeping with him.

Bring on the hot stuff…

Reaching to undo the hatch, he muttered. "You know we can't be here, Mags." Next thing he knew, Maggie had him backed up against the bulkhead, her lips sucking on his neck sending him into a state of shocked arousal. "What the hell?" He shook his head, wondering if he'd maybe fallen asleep somewhere back on the flight deck. "Mags?"
Had to be a dream.
Her nose tickled his throat. He worried the mixture of sweat and traces of grease and fuel from the planes would wake her up, but Maggie only mumbled against his skin, "Cutter, please shut up." Dragging her lips up to his, she all but inhaled him before breaking the kiss to start undoing her buckles.
Max shook his head, confused and completely turned on. Maggie stood before him, looking like she wanted to eat him alive. Nope. Not a dream. And not one of his many dreams about having her naked.
Hell's bells! Totally real.
His muddled mind finally reached the conclusion his body already had. Except he and Maggie didn't do this. They danced around it. They flirted. They teased. But they never acted on the impulses bouncing back and forth between them.
Not that he didn't want to. He wasn't the problem. Flaming hoops weren't an option with Maggie; they were a requirement.
So, what the hell?
Grabbing her hands before she could start on her zipper, Max halted her progress even while his brain and body rebelled. "Maggie… what are we doing here?" Stupid question. Pretty damned obvious what she planned on doing, but he kinda needed to know why now?

Get Hooked: Reel in a Great Book—Bucking Convention #MFRWAuthors #MFRWHooks

Welcome to Book Hooks, the weekly smorgasbord sampler hosted by the MFRW Authors Blog.

I'm revisiting a current release, Bucking Convention, book two of the Top Dog Pilots series. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Max and Maggie.

This week, we meet Maggie who gets dropped into something of a mess.

Book Tagline: A tragic loss puts Cutter on the edge and it's up to Maggie to pull him back.

Series Tagline: Two top pilots, Max Cutter and Maggie Harper, like to mix a little personal with their professional life.

~*~

Captain Maggie Harper blew out a deep breath, flipping the folder in her lap closed. She didn't want to read any more details about the explosion that took the life of a fellow pilot. One she was en route to replace on the roster.
It sucked to step in when a comrade was lost. Worse, when you were personally involved in the fallout.
And it didn't get any more personal for her.
She happened to be replacing Max Cutter's wingman.
Max.
Her heart tripped a little. It could have been Max's ship. The prayer of thanks she sent out might be rude, but so be it. Maggie wouldn't apologize for being happy or relieved Cutter didn't die in a freak accident.
They had a good thing going and she wanted to keep it that way.
Six months and no signs of slowing down.
Maggie smiled. Their interesting Hell Week interlude proved to be just the thing they needed to get through that particular bit of the insanity. But they'd stumbled a little after they survived and danced around the idea of letting the sex remain a one-time thing.
Okay, she danced around it. The fear of losing Max as a friend almost won out, regardless of the really great sex.
Almost.

Series Blurb: Follow the adventures of Max 'Ripper' Cutter and Maggie 'Magpie' Harper, two ace pilots at the top of their game. Whether it's surviving Hell Week, exploring uncharted space, or dealing with a unique family situation, Cutter and Maggie rise to the challenge.

Book Blurb: Max and Maggie survive Hell Week and start a relationship that works. Tragedy strikes Cutter's wingman and when Maggie shows up as the replacement, she discovers a very different Max. Not a good thing when he lives to fly… and can't.

Maggie wants to support Max and help get him back on an even keel, but living and working with him tests her patience and mettle. It's so much easier to handle two tons of space craft than a surly man.

Sunday Snippet: Morning Sickness

Once again, Bitten turned in a great episode. I'm loving the subtle shift to more dark and scary this season. Arrow and The Flash both had great episodes, too. I'm really looking forward to watching Oliver and Thea train together. I'm also thrilled Laurel finally told Lance about Sara. That particular storyline dragged on a lot longer than it should have.

A few new teasers have been airing for Orphan Black and my interest is growing by the day. Here's hoping be get some backstory for Paul. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of him this season.

Tonight's post is from Morning Sickness, a novella where my main characters face a challenge neither expect.

Here's the tagline:

Dava Whales has all the classic signs of pregnancy, except she can't possibly be with child—she's a solider in the middle of a war and religiously takes her mandatory birth control shots. When Warren Carter suggests Dava get checked out, the pricklier than usual officer goes ballistic—especially since Warren is the other half of the parental equation.

And a sneaky peek…

Dava expelled the contents of her stomach, a cold, paralyzing fear settling in her bones. Grabbing a wad of toilet paper, she wiped her mouth and tossed the crumpled tissue in the bowl. Easing back, her head hung low, she swiped the sweat and tears from her face.
Heaving a shaky sigh, denial burst forth. "No. No, no, no. No way." Planting her hand on the wall, she rose on wobbly legs. "There's no way in hell I'm pregnant."
Okay, so why did she experience all the classic signs? Fatigue, headache, sensitive joints, and now puking three mornings in a row?
Exiting the head, she made a straight shot for quarters. "Son of a bitch. This can't be happening." She made a left at the causeway junction and charged forward, keeping to herself and not making eye contact with anyone.
Anyone who knew her would know something had her in a major agitated state—especially Warren. She did not need to bump into him right now. Taking her next right, she dashed into quarters and headed for her bunk. Head still down, she slammed into a wall of flesh and glanced up.
Warren. Shit.
He reached out and steadied her then settled her onto the mattress. She turned her head to the side, refusing to meet his gaze.
He sighed and kneeled down. "Did you throw up again?"
Her gaze shot to his. "How the hell did you know?" She hadn't seen him for three days, he couldn't possibly be aware of—
No. Not pregnant.
Warren rose from his position and sat beside her. "You've been in such a haze you completely missed me being in the head yesterday morning." He grabbed her hand. "And today, like clockwork, you made another mad run for the bathroom." His fingers squeezed hers. "What's going on, Dava?"
She jerked her hand away. "Nothing. Absolutely nothing is going on, Warren." She wouldn't get into anything with him right now.
Warren frowned. "You'd better go see Doc Koffman, as a precaution."
Dava wanted to punch Warren. "Is that an order, Captain? Or are you trying to back me into a corner so I have to talk to you?" God, could she push his buttons any harder?
His lips thinned to a slash across his face and he leaned in close. "I'm not trying to force you into anything, but the sooner you figure out what the hell is going on, the more options you have." His voice became a gruff growl. "Wait too long, your choices are limited."
A red haze of anger settled over her vision. "So, let me get this straight. By choice, you mean ridding ourselves of something, right?" Where did the ball of rage in her gut come from?
Warren jerked back. "Good God, that's not what I'm saying at all." He got up, pacing back and forth. "You're all over the place, Dava. Whatever emotional turmoil you've got going on is clouding your brain." He pinned her with his gaze. "I'm concerned, not only as the CAG, but as your friend." He stopped, his voice going low. "And yeah, also as the potential sperm donor—"
She shot up from the bunk, her hand slamming over his mouth. "Shut up. Just. Shut up, Warren." She turned her back on him. "You and I are not going to talk about this anymore." Damn him for shoving reality in her face.
Warren strode forward, pausing directly behind her. "Get checked out, Dava. Or I will make it an order."
Her shoulders slumped. "Fine." She spun around and jabbed a finger in his shoulder. "I'll go. But you back off and let me go alone." She moved past him, heading for the hatch. "If there's anything you need to know, I'll come find you."
Warren opened his mouth then snapped it shut again, giving her a terse nod.
Dava exited quarters and heaved a sigh of relief then followed it with a sharp intake of breath. A mix of fear and trepidation hit her square in the gut. Exhaling slowly, she took a step followed by another. She'd go to sickbay, wrangle Doc Koffman into drawing some blood, and put the whole idea of being pregnant to bed, once and for all.
Right? Right.
Or maybe not.
This one is taking a really cool turn. Can't wait to write more.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flip side.

Smokin' Hot—Hot and Bothered: Lover's Day

Welcome to the Hot for Friday blog hop!

Readers: Enjoy posts from authors with fun weekly tasks or a cool question.

Authors: Get in on the fun and join here.

Greetings!

This week we're tasked with sharing a scene with sexual tension to leave us hot and bothered. Nice! Especially if you live in a cold climate… like Ohio in February. LOL

For my feature, I'm posting a scene from my upcoming Fireborn Publishing release, Lover's Day.

For a little background, here's the tagline:

On Lover's Day, an exchange of favors puts Maxie and Nate back on the right track.

Bring on the tension…

He'd draped his tee over his shoulder while he downed half the contents of a water bottle. When she approached, he held the bottle in her direction, silently offering her the rest. Maxie let her fingers stay on his longer than necessary when she took the container. Then she tilted her head back to drain the remaining fluid.
Maxie grinned when Nate appeared to be transfixed on her actions. "You know, I'm gonna start getting ideas if you keep doing that."  Wiping her lips with the back of her hand, she tossed the bottle in the recycling bin.
Looking a little sheepish, Nate responded, "I would apologize if I didn't think I was doing exactly what you wanted." He slowly closed the short distance between them. "Am I wrong? Wanna fill me in on what's going on in that head of yours?"
Do I ever. And Nate's curiosity pushed her momentum up a notch, thank the cosmic alignment of the universe.
Maxie flashed a quick smile. "Noooo…you're not wrong." She leaned in close, pitching her voice low. "I've got my last six favors all picked out. I just needed to know if you'd be…" Her gaze dropped for a moment, the tip of her tongue wetting her top lip. "Um, up for them." Her stare lingered on his groin.
Nate's held tilted back in understanding. "Ah, I see." He returned her bold perusal. "I'm pretty sure I can be 'up' for anything." Invading her personal space, his head lowered, his lips just a whisper away from hers. "What's the first favor, Maxie?"
His raspy tone, sinful and sexy, sent a blaze of need coursing through her.

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, I wanted to share a series of excerpts from Lover's Day, my upcoming release from Fireborn Publishing, arriving on February 13. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Maxie and Nate.

This week, we see Maxie tease Nate a little to test the waters.

Book Tagline: On Lover's Day, an exchange of favors puts Maxie and Nate back on the right track.

~*~

Two days later, Maxie caught up with Nate when he carried a tray of food from the galley toward the mess. Falling into step with him, she walked along by his side until he got settled then she plopped down across from him. He didn't even get a chance to take his first bite before she snagged the tray and slid it in front of herself.
At his questioning glance, she shrugged. "I'm hungry… and you still owe me some favors." She twirled his fork in the pile of noodles then pursed her lips to suck the long strand into her mouth.
Nate sat watching her, mesmerized by her sensuous display. Maxie didn't know which made her hotter, the spicy noodles or the spark of interest in Nate's eyes. She ate three more mouthfuls of the pasta before she couldn't stand it anymore and switched to the ripe, sweet fruit in the dish next to the plate. Blessedly juicy and cool, the chunks of watermelon took the edge off the zesty tang of the sauce.
Savoring the flavor, she chewed slowly then swallowed. "You know… I could use a drink. The noodles seem spicier than usual." She speared another piece of fruit and popped it into her mouth, talking while she chewed. "And this fruit won't last long. They never give you enough to go with the noodles." She held back a grin when Nate sighed and rose, ready to procure her requested beverage. "You should get yourself something while you're up."
Watching him leave, a twinge of contrition hit for what she planned to put him through. He'd think her a pain in the ass, but if he continued to be such a good sport, she had a feeling he'd be okay with her remaining list of favors.

Sunday Snippet: Make the Call

February 8, 2015

WooHoo! Bitten is back and Elena is pissed off. All I'll say for now since it's not airing the US yet. Season two opened with a great episode. Looking forward to seeing how everything plays out. And The Walking Dead returned. I’m watching as I type. Interesting episode so far, very different, which I like.

Over on The Flash and Arrow, good efforts by both shows. I'm happy to see Oliver back in Starling City and the angst factor cranking up to a zillion. Gotham and Sleepy Hollow were okay, especially that ending on SH.

Now I just need Orphan Black to return and make my brain explode. LOL

Tonight's post is from Make the Call, a novella with main characters who have to find their way back to each other.

Here's the tagline:

Gia Pimm has everything she wants, but a reminder from her mother—that Gia will always suffer when good things happen—makes her walk away from Nolan Curry. But when she needs antibiotics, she swallows her pride and makes a call to the man who has them—Nolan.

And here's a sneaky peek…

He handed the box over. "Here it is. I hope he knows what it cost you to get this stuff."
Gia's gaze went hard. "Meaning my pride? No big loss, Nolan. I've got plenty to go around, right?" She turned to leave.
His hand shot out, grasping her arm. "He's worth that much to you? Enough to make you grovel?"
She wouldn't answer. She couldn't tell Nolan she wanted the meds so she could break things off with Rand and not be weighed down by guilt. Her shoulders stiffened, squaring for battle.
He dropped his hand, almost like he couldn't stand to touch her. "Never mind. Of course he is." He took several steps back. "Be happy, Gia." Turning, he ducked out the door.
She didn't want him to leave. "Nolan!" Crossing the space, she hit the doorway and slammed into a hard body and hands shot out to steady her.
Nolan.
Meeting his gaze, her throat went dry. She loved him so damned much. Why did she have such a hard time trying to explain?
Swallowing, she had to give it her best effort. "I'm not, Nolan. Happy, I mean. Haven't been since my second day down here." Easing back, getting some space between them, she continued. "But you called it. Too damned much pride wouldn't let me go back. Hell, you told me not to come back. I took you at your word."
He opened his mouth but she halted him.
"You got your swipes in, it's my turn. I called you, pride or no pride, to get the meds Rand needs. Not because I’m so in love with him I'd do anything, but because I'm not in love with him."
Nolan shook his head. "You've lost me, Gia. If you don't love Rand, why the hell did you call for the meds?"
She blurted. "Because he knows it. That's why he's sick."
Nolan tugged her over to the small couch Lila had tucked in the corner. "Spill everything. Explain."
She did. Starting with how Rand responded every time she bailed on their plans. By going to the fights and getting pounded. Then he returned home, bypassing the medical facility, to nurse his wounds. Or not take care of them. Low grade infection lowered his resistance enough to truly threaten his health once the cold weather settled in.
Nolan frowned. "Does he want to die?"
Gia shrugged. "It's too bad if he does. I'm not going to let him." She tucked the antibiotics into her bag.
Nolan sighed. "So, we're right back where we started then." His eyes slid closed and he pinched the bridge of his nose.
Gia laid a hand on his bicep. "No, we're not. I'm taking the meds to medical then I'm gathering my gear and coming back here…" His gaze snapped to hers and she held it.
"If you'll wait." She paused a moment, removing her hand. "And let me come back."
Nolan studied her for a several long seconds. "I think I can do that." His lips curved in a slight smile. "I'll radio ahead and have the quartermaster start the paperwork."
Gia grinned, so relieved she almost sank to the ground. "Give me fifteen minutes." She reached out, grasping his fingers. "Please don't leave without me."
Nolan squeezed her hand. "Take your time. I'm not going anywhere."
This one has some twists and turns and goes a little dark, but I'm loving where it's taking me.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flip.

Smokin' Hot—Hot and Swoon-Worthy: Lover's Day

After a forced hiatus where I descended into deadline hell, I finally get to rejoin my fellow authors with a new Hot for Friday blog post. YAY!

This week we're tasked with posting a piece of dialog where our hero gets to take center stage and deliver a swoon-worthy line to the heroine. I can't wait to read some smooth moves from our hot men.

For my feature, I'm posting one of my favorite bits from my upcoming Fireborn Publishing Valentine themed release, Lover's Day.

For a little background, here's the tagline:

On Lover's Day, an exchange of favors puts Maxie and Nate back on the right track.

And the swoon-worthy dialog…(from Maxie's point of view)

Nate shifted and sat up, leaning against the pillows. "Where are we going with this, Maxie? I mean, is this just an easy lay? Is that why you picked Lover's Day?"
Leave it to Nate to get straight to the heart of everything.
Maxie sat up, facing him. "That's more than one question, Nate." Her lips twitched. "But the honest answer is yes, I picked Lover's Day to give us an out, if we needed one."
Nate shook his head. "We don't. Or at least I don't." He crossed his arms over his chest. "I'm not a one and done kind of guy. You should know this about me, Maxie."

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, I'm sharing my upcoming themed release, Lover's Day, coming February 13 from Fireborn Publishing.

Book Tagline: On Lover's Day, an exchange of favors puts Maxie and Nate back on the right track.

~*~

Nate Northampton couldn't believe his rotten luck. His four on a quad had been trumped by Maxie Yearn's full ride. He pulled the most incredible hand he'd had in years and his best friend, otherwise known as the new bane of his existence, topped it.
Seriously, how did she do it?
Maxie had a nasty habit of always ending his hot streaks. Until she'd entered the game, he'd been up over everyone. At least he'd achieved his main goal of letting off steam. And then some. The fact that Maxie now had every last bit of his bounty couldn't take his accomplishment away.
He watched her scoop up her winnings, accept a round of congratulations, and down a freshly poured shot. Nate decided to take his leave before she started crowing about coming out on top. With as much as they'd had to drink, the innuendo wouldn't stop if it got started. And sexy banter could take them places they didn't need to go.
They didn't have Martin—has it really been almost a year since we lost him—to keep them on the straight and narrow anymore.
He'd learned his lesson a long time ago. Never get started with Maxie if Martin didn't have his back. Too bad Nate hadn't remembered the other important bit—never, ever bet against Bombshell… no matter how great the cards in his hand.
The woman had more good fortune at wagers than anyone he'd ever met. Whatever looked out for her in the universe did a damn fine job. Nate almost wished she didn't have a butt load of skill to back up the rest.
He'd almost escaped to the hatch when Maxie cleared her throat to get his attention. "Hey Slapshot… you still have to pay up."

Blurb: Nate Northampton and Maxie Yearns are pilots on the Apus and have been dealing with the loss of their best friend, Martin Comico, who died in a crash due to a technical flaw. Maxie notices the distance and feels like she's lost two friends instead of one.

Nate struggles with the new signals Maxie throws his way, but he goes with the flow, something Martin always recommended. Nate can't go wrong if he heeds his friend's advice and the reward may see his wildest dream become reality.

With Valentine's Day fast approaching, I wanted to share a series of excerpts from Lover's Day, my upcoming release from Fireborn Publishing, arriving on February 13. Over the next few weeks, I'll post a few pivotal scenes between Maxie and Nate.

This week, we meet Maxie.

Book Tagline: On Lover's Day, an exchange of favors puts Maxie and Nate back on the right track.

Maxie grinned at Nate's retreating back. She could have so much fun with the wager. Poor Nate. He'd bet against her with a kick ass hand and lost. How she ended up with a full ride, she'd never know. Possibly some type of divine intervention.
Chuckling, she waited until someone topped off her glass again and Nate had just reached the exit before delivering a parting shot. "Be prepared, Nate. Remember, you have to do anything and everything I ask." He raised his hand in acknowledgment, but didn't look back.
Maxie tossed the shot down, growing thoughtful. She and Nate had been doing a slow tug of war for equilibrium since they'd lost a third of their trio—to a stupid mechanical flaw in a plane. Martin Comico acted as a balance beam between her headstrong impulsiveness and Nate's stubborn fastidiousness. Without him, she now tended to bump heads with Nate and didn't like it.
They'd lost the intimacy they used to have. Sure, they were still friends. Not like Nate went out of his way to avoid her. But he held back and Maxie missed having fun with him. She'd given him ample opportunity and openings for the banter they used to toss back and forth, but he didn't even nibble at the obvious bait.
And she knew why. Martin wouldn't be there to rein them in. He'd always kept her and Nate from saying, or doing, anything truly stupid or irrevocable. But there had to be a way to draw Nate back, get closer with him again. She hated the feeling of losing two friends, instead of one.
She wouldn't be above giving Nate a big ass nudge. But she'd have to use a soft touch. Nate didn't appreciate a hard approach. No, he always went for subtlety if he could. Finesse, he called it.
Not really her thing, but she could probably pull it off.
Ten favors wouldn't be a bad way to start.

Sunday Snippet: Major Issues

February 1, 2015

One more week until Bitten returns with season two. I can't wait!! Banshee is amping up the tension and I'm looking forward to the next episode. Makes me miss Strike Back and look forward to whenever it comes back to my television screen.

My usual fare, The Flash, Arrow, Gotham, and Sleepy Hollow had good showings. I'm enjoying the story arc on Arrow even if my twitter feed seems to hold a different opinion. I love the flashbacks and how they reveal information about Oliver's time off the island.

Also need to take a moment to mention Lost Girl. It's the final season and I'm so going to miss the show when it's gone. Thankfully, I'll have Orphan Black to look forward to soon and will get to see Ksenia Solo in a new role. J

Tonight's post is from Major Issues, a novella where a past secret is resolved, opening the door for the hero and heroine to start on a new journey.

Here's the tagline:

Ellis Wright, a damn good pilot who works hard at her job, runs into an old nemesis—Major Anton Burnhard—and he tries to put her on the defensive again. But Ellis isn't the same raw cadet from five years ago. This time around she'll bring in her backup—Trey Shuttleworth—if she can convince him the rumor about her affair with the major isn't true.

And a sneaky peek…

Trey stopped her. "Wait, what are you saying?" He shook his head. "Why didn't you set people straight?"
Ellis shrugged. "No one asked. They assumed it was true." She pinned Trey with her gaze. "You did."
Trey looked away. She had him with that one.
She lifted her shoulder again. "Frankly, I didn't care enough to worry. Why bother?" Her mouth thinned. "People think what they want."
Trey argued. "But if you'd only said something—"
Ellis cut him off. "Said what? That I was stupid?" She snorted. "What happened, happened. Five years ago. Ancient history."
Trey countered. "Not so ancient if it's biting you on the ass now."
Ellis conceded his point. "You've got me there." She waited a beat. "You gonna help or not?"
Trey let the image of the tall, hulking major fill his head. Ellis wouldn't have stood a chance against him. And the guy would go down for trapping her in a no win situation.
Trey nodded. "Oh, I'm in. Count on it."

I'm loving the twisty turns in this one. Can't wait to write more.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flip.
