Sunday Snippet: Yee Haw!

The first full week of August kind of flew by. We had a power outage and mobile phone outage on the same night, which made for a long six hours. Also kind of weird since there wasn't a storm or anything that would be a normal reason for the loss.

Very busy week with work projects and September is looking like another busy month. I'm definitely not complaining. I miss having dedicated writing time, but I also squeeze that in whenever I can.

The school year starts next week, which means the husband will be at his new position in the elementary school. He truly wishes he'd had this job thirty years ago. I can't blame him. He drove almost an hour each way for twenty-plus years. The schools in our district are all less than five miles away and the elementary school is three blocks from our house.

Had my daughter home for several days this week and we had a great time catching up. She even had me cut her hair, which turned out really well. Always love it when she asks me to help with stuff like that.

Had a solid viewing week and made it through my whole slate of shows, including my two back-burner ones. Not sure what the upcoming week will bring but hoping to keep on target.

Started the week with Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries and finished up the first season. Can't wait to start season two. Another one of my favorite episodes is coming up.

Caught another Madame Blanc Mysteries and really enjoyed the twisty turns in this one. This season is shaping up to be a lot of fun. I like Charlie and Simone so it's good to see them again.

Watched another episode of Death in Paradise and it's the penultimate episode before the season thirteen finale. So great to have Florence back, even if only for a brief time. Looking forward to the finale.

Enjoyed an episode of Poirot. This one was a lot of fun, especially having Poirot sneaking into a house and getting caught. And spending a night in jail to boot!

Caught an episode of Elementary and very much enjoyed Sherlock figuring out Alfredo needed some support. The mystery ended up being pretty interesting also.

Watched another episode of Batman Beyond and it's one I remembered. Always fun to see Bruce and Barbara spar, and I loved Terry trusting Bruce to help him.

Lower Decks again charmed and annoyed me. I've come to kind of accept that's how this show is going to be for me. I did really like the teamwork in this one.

Finished up the episode of Peak Practice from last week and even started the new episode. Have to finish it this week.

Finally, Reacher. Man. This show. I truly get the hype around it. So many revelations. Finlay. Yeah, didn't see that one coming. Explains a lot. Roscoe. Badass. Seriously. I'm on the fence with Charlie's admission about Hubbel. I think there's more to the story there. And Reacher having the light-bulb moment with the last-standing professor was excellent. Here's hoping she stays alive. Can't wait to watch the next episode!

That's it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Yee Haw, a novella that throws a couple into a precarious situation thanks to new guys.

Here's the miniblurb:

Two new transfers upset the delicate balance of the space carrier, Mephisto, that Kellsie Eaves and Wick Fairchilds worked so hard to obtain. When the duo attempts to restore the status quo, the troublemakers go after Kellsie and she gets to school them in the art of kicking ass, with Wick as her backup.

And a sneaky peek…

Eldric entered the small equipment storage locker he and Bert claimed as their official work zone, meaning the place they killed time when they were on shift.
Bert glanced up. "Yo, I jacked a wireless feed. We can now watch whatever we want, including all the sex shows available to the galaxy." He turned the screen toward Eldric.
Eldric snorted. "We can watch the actual thing if we want to, and you'll never guess who with…" His eyebrows waggled.
Bert winced. "If you say that female deckhand who's into women, I'm not interested."
Eldric shook his head. "No, man. Captain Hot Ass is boning Major Dick Face. I literally heard them going at it." He huffed out a breath. "Probably why she's such a bitch … Dick Face can't satisfy her."
Bert perked up. No doubt because they speculated about Captain Eaves and wondered if the woman ever got any. Well, Eldric confirmed she did.
Bert leaned forward, propping his elbows on his knees. "Maybe we oughtta teach her a lesson and show her how real men handle uppity females … especially when they're always trying to put our balls in a vice."
Eldric nodded. "Yeah, and maybe that'll keep her and the major from running to Colonel Numb Nuts. When's that meeting supposed to take place?" He pulled a stool around and sat down.
Bert shrugged. "What do we know about Major Dick Face so far?"
Eldric grunted. "Aside from him being a pain in the ass? He's a stickler for detail." He made a face. "Hence the reason he's a thorn in my side."
Bert snapped his fingers. "Exactly. He won't go to Numb Nuts until he's got everything documented, color coded, and alphabetized." He cocked his head a moment. "Probably another day maybe two."
Eldric grinned and leaned in a closer. "Then we have time to follow Captain Hot Ass and find her alone somewhere before that happens."
Bert's mouth twisted. "Yee haw … damn right we do."

I don't often include an antagonist POV, but the danger level needed to be set and doing it from this perspective helps establish how creepy these guys are.

Sunday Snippet: Yee Haw

It’s been a long and fun week. Left for vacation on Wednesday morning and we head home on Monday morning. I won’t have much in the way of viewing this week, so I’ll update next week with my regular schedule.

So far, I can honestly say the Grand Canyon is quite incredible. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous. It’s been great to see family and I’m kind of glad my husband and I both have family in the state of Arizona now. Gives a reason to return in the future.

I’ll be keeping the post brief and only note that I’ve started a new show and I’m excited to discuss next time. The life update is mainly I’m exhausted in the best way possible and I’m thrilled we got to have some time way. But I also can’t wait to get home and hug the dogs and kids.

Tonight’s post is from Yee Haw, a novella that got a start with a writing community prompt.

Here’s the mini-blurb:

Two new transfers upset the delicate balance of the space carrier, Mephisto. A balance Kellsie Eaves and Wick Fairchilds worked so hard to obtain. When the duo attempts to restore the status quo, the troublemakers go after Kellsie and she gets to school them in the art of kicking ass, with Wick as her backup.

And a sneaky peek… (CW: suggested non-consent)

Kellsie worked out on the heavy bag in the gym on B-deck. Situated between a small arms locker and a machinist hub, she liked this spot because other people rarely used the location. The rattle and clank from the machinist hub tended to be a distraction.

She'd just finished a punch-kick combo when someone loudly entered the space.

"Well, look what we have here, Samson. Captain Hot Ass in the flesh and all alone." Mont leered and raised his eyebrows.

Bert sneered. "She must've wore Major Dick Face out—after they plotted and planned our supposed downfall." He advanced closer and made a circuit around Kellsie and the punching bag.

Kellsie kept her stance relaxed and grabbed her towel from the top of the bag. "Do you guys work hard at being stupid or does it come naturally?" She calculated the distance to the doors and quickly decided against trying to take this spectacle public.

Eldric closed in from the other side and tried to box Kellsie in. "You saying we're dumb? Think again, sweet ass. Samson and I aren't boning a superior officer … although that could change real quick."

Kellsie cut across the floor and reached for a bottle of water. Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of Lieutenant Lila Carns, standing wide-eyed just outside the door. Kellsie didn't draw attention to the other officer, instead twisting off the cap and taking a long drink of water.

Confident backup would be on the way, she'd let things play out. "I don't think so, boys. You're a little big-mouthed and blabby for my taste."

Eldric reached out and snagged her arm. "And you're a little too trapped to do much about it." He squeezed her bicep, twisting hard.

Instead of scaring her, the action pissed her off. But when a blue blur dashed past the second door and Kellsie fought the urge to smash her fist in Mont's face. If anything went down, she'd need a witness.

Bert sneered. "I don't think you understand how this is gonna go, honey babe." He gave her a long-slow once over. "You get both of us all to yourself."

Kellsie snorted. "Not. Gonna. Happen."

Mont spread his hands out in front of him. "Oh, come on, captain. You put out for the major. And he's nothing but a big dick." He paused and smirked. "But you seem to like having his slab between your legs." He grew thoughtful. "Or does he shove it up your ass? I'll bet you've got a great ass for fucking." He reached out and slid a hand down her neck. "And I'll lay odds you can take a dick all the way down your pretty little throat." He applied pressure above her windpipe and glanced toward Samson. "Wanna see how much she can take?" He released her and his hands dropped to his belt and loosened the buckle.

Bert made a sound of agreement and started undoing his belt also. "Oh, yeah, let's teach this little bitch a lesson in sucking dick."

Actually pretty excited about how this one is coming together. This scene ended up being more than I expected but I’m also happy with how it turned out.

Sunday Snippet: Yee Haw

Got a solid week of TV viewing in because the weather has been so back and forth it's easier to not plan anything. LOL

Caught another episode of Chicago Fire and, wow, it was terrific. The whole creepy buildup to the reveal played out really well. I have some thoughts on Brett and Casey but won't hold my breath to see what I want there. Loved seeing some good interaction with Kelly and Stella.

Watched the premiere episode of Daredevil's third season. Not a bad start at all. Enjoyed Karen and Foggy the most and liked seeing Matt try to come back. I'm not completely down with him being all pissy about everything but then again why wouldn't he be?

Enjoyed Frankie Drake Mysteries third episode. I kind of miss Frankie having different guys revolve in and out of her life, but she's got chemistry with the detective… even though I'd kind of like Mary to hook up with him.

Riverdale does batshit crazy better than just about any other show out there. As much as I like Mark Consuelos as an actor, I truly loathe Hiram and seriously see nothing redeeming in his characterization. That's usually when I start to lose interest. Here's hoping that doesn't happen with this show.

Watched several more episodes of Blue Heelers. I can't quite decide if I like the detective or not. And Wayne's wife Roz annoys me sometimes. That said, I love the show. Glad I picked it to watch.

Arrow managed to surprise me with the Brothers and Sisters episode. I'm very intrigued with Adrian Paul playing a bad guy. I can't wait to find out what his connection is to Emiko… I have several thoughts about how it might tie into how Oliver spent some of his time in earlier seasons and who he spent that time with. We'll see if I'm right.

Caught the finale of The Murders and it did not disappoint. I so hope this show gets another season and, if so, it needs to have Nolan. Just saying.

Watched another episode of Classic Roswell and enjoyed it again. I like how viewers can almost see the moment Valenti shifts his perspective on possible alien residency in Roswell.

Speaking of Roswell... New Mexico added the actress who plays Rosa as a series regular for season two. I admit this concerns me. Not because I didn't enjoy the actress; more because this is already a huge cast and I'd rather not have my favorites lose screen time. Maria was woefully underused and my hope is Rosa will help bring her into the fold. If not, I might be saying "so long" to Roswell, New Mexico… which actually saddens me because the first season is still eating my brain.

Caught another episode of Painkiller Jane and it's one I didn't remember. I liked seeing how Jane's situation ties into the whole neuro craziness while at the same time is a completely different beast altogether.

Durham County is so damn hard to watch sometimes. I mean that in the best possible way. It's such a raw emotional look at the big and little things that make people who they are. Ray senior has got to be one of the worst examples of humanity and I want to know how the hell he got to be such a waste of life. Hopefully there's an answer in the series somewhere.

Watched another episode of Midsomer Murders and it was really terrific. Sometimes, especially with a show that's been on so long, episodes feel like they're a rehashing of previous seasons. This one was definitely not.

Caught two more episodes of Peter Gunn and Classic Who. There's something fun about watching black and white television. Maybe it's the nostalgia factor?

In the Dark ripped a huge band-aid off Murphy's life and, boy, did she react. Sometimes I get frustrated with her prickly demeanor but her flaws really are front and center and Jess always has the best way of presenting why it's easy to overlook some of Murphy's abrasive personality traits.

Last but not least, I watched another episode of Blade and I'd remembered it from the first go around. I can't say seeing Marcus's origin story really made me sympathetic to him but I can see how Krista got sucked into the scenario of maybe seeing some shades of gray there.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Yee Haw, which is definitely a working title. I haven't quite nailed down what I want to call this one yet.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Two new transfers upset the delicate balance of the space carrier, Mephisto, that Kellsie Eaves and Wick Fairchilds worked so hard to obtain. When the duo attempts to restore the status quo, the troublemakers go after Kellsie and she gets to school them in the art of kicking ass, with Wick as her backup.

And a sneaky peek…

Kellsie Eaves slumped further down in her seat, waiting to see how the latest dickholery from two new crewmembers played out.
Bart Samson and Eldric Mont transferred over from the Phadreus to the Mephisto almost two weeks ago and the space carrier had been reeling from the change ever since.
Kellsie swirled the liquid in her glass. "How can two guys throw everything out of orbit in such a short time?" Maybe because mutual respect and common courtesy didn't exist in their vocabulary.
Samson had a deckhand pinned against the wall. Not physically, but he'd invaded her personal space and if she didn't want bodily contact she had to stay against the bulkhead. She held her own, but Eldric had the rec room entrance blocked so she couldn't really make a break for it.
The deckhand, Sarah Minew, kept her voice pitched low. "I have a shift in fifteen minutes. Move so I can leave."
Bart smirked. "Not going anywhere until you say you'll meet me later." He folded his arms over his chest.
Sarah shook her head. "I'd rather not. You're really not my type." She kept her tone even, cordially declining a meet-up.
Eldric took a step closer. "What's a matter? He not good enough for you?"
Sarah shrugged. "It's not about that. I'm not into guys. And my girlfriend is the jealous type."
Kellsie nodded. Louelle Granger did have some possessive issues when it came to Sarah.
Bart rolled his eyes. "You're a pussy diver? Baby, you need a good poke with a hard dick." His hand went to his groin. "I've got what you need right here."
Eldric added his two cents. "And when he's done, I'll give you a work over to seal the deal. You'll never go back to sucking quims."
Sarah's face paled at the implied meaning from the two men.  Kellsie had heard enough. She pushed her drink aside and started to get up.
But another deckhand, Rimmel Jenkins, stepped into the fray. "Hey, back off. She's not interested and on this ship… that's the end of the conversation. Respect the boundaries or—"
"Or what?" Eldric puffed out his chest, fronting his tough-guy image.
Rimmel narrowed his eyes. "Or you won't like the outcome."
Bart turned to face Eldric. "Hear that? He thinks we won't like what happens." He lifted his chin. "Think we oughtta show him how we control the outcome?"
A nasty smile curved Eldric's lips. "Hell, yeah." He dragged in a deep breath. "Yee haw!" His fist drew back and landed a solid punch to Rimmel's jaw.
Rimmel's head snapped back but he moved quickly to a fighting stance. Sarah ducked away from the fray and darted out of the rec room to stand just outside the door.
Son of a bitch.
Kellsie scrambled around the table and ran to break up the fight. "Lock it up. Now." Rimmel stepped back, immediately obeying the order.
Samson and Mont continued advancing forward.
Kellsie put her hand out. "Now means now. Rimmel, escort Sarah to the hangar deck." She pointed at Bart and Eldric. "You two, report to Major Fairchild's office immediately. Do not take any detours." She crossed over to pick up a comm set.
Samson snorted. "Gonna tell Major Stick-Up-His-Ass on us again, Captain?"
Mont rolled his eyes. "When are you two gonna learn to bow to your betters? We transferred from the newest and best ship in the galaxy to this bucket. We're better trained than all you backwater rim eaters."
Kellsie did a mental five count before repeating her order. "Fairchild. Now." She keyed in Wick's office number and quirked her eyebrow when the two men didn't move.
Three crewmembers got up and started crowding them toward the hatch. Kellsie gave them a thumbs-up, grateful for the intervention.
Wick answered on the third ring. "Fairchild."
Kellsie spoke quickly. "I'm sending the smarmy sunshine boys your way." She didn't have to elaborate, the nickname came from Wick. "It's time for a verbal warning. And maybe a strategy session on how to squash the slimy bastards."
Wick sighed. "This is the third incident and they've been here two weeks. I can meet after shift at 1800. Does that work for you?"
Kellsie didn't report for her next duty until 0400. "Yeah. I'll bring dinner?"
Wick signed off. "That works. Until then."
The line went dead and Kellsie replaced the comm unit. She met the gazes of the remaining crewmembers in the rec room. Each one held the same question.
What the hell did they do to deserve the worst of the worst?

This story is coming together nicely. I have the main beats outlined and lots of notes for filling in the details. Looking forward to finishing this one.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Yee Haw

January 12, 2014

Greetings!

Well, off to a wacky weather start to the new year. Minus single digit degrees to fifty within forty-eight hours. Welcome to Ohio. LOL

TV shows are back this week, or at least most of them are. Have to wait until February for The Walking Dead, and April for Orphan Black.

But… Banshee returned Friday and, as usual, didn't disappoint. I honestly have no idea why the show is one of my must sees, but it totally is. And, holy crap, they jam a lot into a single hour, less than, actually. Caught Helix on Syfy, and it sufficiently creeped me out enough to keep watching. Lost Girl comes back on Monday, and I'm definitely up for some Bitten, which looks kind of awesome. Almost Human was pretty great, too.

Sleepy Hollow and Arrow return this week. I can't wait!! Looking for to The Tomorrow People, too.

Tonight's post is from the tentatively named, Yee Haw, a novella where the main characters have loads of fun dealing with two new crewmembers. Seriously not sure I like the title, but's a work in progress, so hopefully something pops at a later date.

Here's the tagline:

Two new transfers upset the delicate balance of the space carrier, Mephisto, that Kellsie Eaves and Wick Fairchilds worked so hard to obtain. When the duo attempts to restore the status quo, the troublemakers go after Kellsie and she gets to school them in the art of kicking ass, with Wick as her backup.

And a sneaky peek…

"Major? The sunshine boys have Captain Eaves trapped in the gym." The out of breath Lieutenant Carns stumbled to halt in front of Wick's desk. "And it looks like they're up to their usual fun and games."
Wick rose and closed the file in front of him. "Which deck?" He met the concerned gaze of his junior officer. "Lieutenant, which deck?"
She calmed and answered. "B, Sir. Deck B."
Wick rounded the desk and firmly gripped her shoulder. "Thank you, Carns. I'll handle it." He exited his office and double timed it down one level.
Bart and Eldric finally stepped over the line one too many times and Wick now had enough to bring them up on charges. They must've caught wind of his impending meeting with the commander.
The shift change klaxon sounded and he picked up his pace. "Shit." The causeway filled with crewmen and he shouted. "Make a hole. Coming through."
His path clear, he hot-footed it around the corner, making a mad, crazy dash to the end of the juncture and almost blew past the first entrance to the gym. He got stopped in time and hovered outside the hatch, listening carefully to see if he'd need backup from a security unit.
Kellsie stood in the middle of the workout area, her hands on her hips. "I wouldn't drop trou just yet, Mont. The fact either of you think you give lessons on sucking cock, shows how little intelligence you have." She tilted her head to the side. "Or maybe it speaks volumes about what you two get up to in your spare time." She nodded. "Yeah, that's it, isn't it?"
Bert grabbed her arm. "You stupid cunt. I wouldn't suck Mont's dick if somebody paid me."
Kellsie quirked a brow. "Exactly. Neither would I. And if you think you're gonna force the issue, think again." She slid her gaze toward Eldric. "Because I'd rip that little fucker off at the root before it got close to my lips." She took a step back then caught sight of Wick.
She snapped to attention. "Sir."
Bert and Eldric didn't make an effort to follow suit. They didn't move, but each man sized Wick up.
Wick entered the gym. "At ease, Captain." He stood between the two exits and almost hoped they'd make a run for it.
Kellsie relaxed, but stayed put. Wick gave a her slight nod, indicating she'd get her shot.
Bert sneered. "Gonna order us to back off, Major?" He jerked his head toward Kellsie. "And save your sweet little piece of ass?"
Wick responded. "I don't need to save Captain Eaves, Samson." He met Kellsie's gaze.  "What do you say to a little mop up session, Kells?"
Since the Mephisto had been dubbed 'the bucket' by the two newest crew members, he figured she'd enjoy the play on words. And totally understand mop up equaled beat down.
Kellsie let a slow, sly smile cross over her face. "Well, Major, I think I'd say…" She tilted her head to the right. "Yee." And then to the left, cracking her neck. "Haw."
She dove for the big one, Eldric, grabbing his ankles and jerking him off his feet. With his belt loosened and pants undone, his legs got trapped in the fatigues. Samson leaped into the fray and wrapped an arm around Kellsie's neck, squeezing hard. Wick shoved the hatch shut and drove a wrench in to keep it closed, and then made his way to the second entrance and repeated the action.
Bert glanced up, tightening his grip on Kellsie's throat. "You gonna join in, Sir?" He spat the rank like it tasted bad on his tongue.
Wick leaned back against the bulkhead, crossing his arms over his chest. "Nope. I'm gonna let my captain school you two in the art of ass kicking."
Mont bucked his hips, tossing Kellsie upward, but she hung on with one hand and punched him in the face with the other. She reared back, smashing Samson's face with her head. He yowled, blowing blood out his nose and let go to staunch the flow.
Wick's mouth curved upward. He'd taught her that move two weeks ago during a sparring session.
Kellsie dragged in deep gasps of air then got back to business. Hopping up, she lifted her foot and stomped on the Eldric's knee, the sickening crunch of bone snapping against bone made a satisfying sound. She drew her leg back and kicked him hard in the groin. He rolled to the side, heaving up whatever he had for lunch.
Wick's lips twitched. Yep, he'd taught her well. And she used every trick she'd learned.
She whirled around, dropped, and swept her leg sideways, making Bert topple backward onto his ass. Kellsie jumped on top of him, straddling his torso, landing blow after blow, alternating between his ribs and face. She kept one eye trained in Mont's direction, but he stayed down, curled up in a fetal position, taking short, shallow breaths.
Satisfied he wouldn't be a threat, she rolled to her side, dragging Samson with her. Bringing her knees up, she pushed hard, flinging him up and over to go sprawling up along the wall. She twisted around, got to her feet, and grabbed his hair, shoving his face into the bulkhead. His head slammed hard against the metal, a sharp painful grunt escaping his mouth before he could stop it.
Kellsie glanced in Wick's direction. "Have I schooled them to you satisfaction, Major?" Her words came out in a rumbly growl, evidence of the damage Bert did earlier.
Wick gave a terse nod. "Above and beyond, Captain. Nicely done."
Kellsie let go of Samson and stepped back, stumbling but remaining upright. "Permission to hit the…" She sucked in more air, "showers, Sir."
Wick undogged the hatch and shoved it open. "Granted."
He waited until she left before he coldly informed the two Phadreaus troublemakers of their fate. "I suggest you both stay down." He walked to the comm phone and pressed three digits. "At least until the marines get here to haul your asses to the brig." His lips curved in a sneer. "You can expect the standard insubordination charge, along with a detailed list of additional infractions." He spoke three words into the handset before hanging up. "I hope you boys like your food cold and your racks lumpy, because you'll be in the pit." He sent a sarcastic smile in their direction. "Nothing but the best for you two."

Kellsie and Wick set quite a trap for Eldric and Bert. The lead up is something of a thrill ride. J

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flip!
