Sunday Snippet: Steamed

November is starting off with a wild trajectory. The election in the US is taking up a lot of air and space in my life and I'm okay with that. It does make it harder to focus on anything but the election, which isn't optimal for my work projects.

That said, I'm weirdly calm and very hopeful. Which is not to say I'm complacent because that would be stupid and reckless. There's going to be a lot of work to do regardless of who wins the presidency, senate, and house.

My tricky manuscript turned extremely challenging, but I finally got it finished up late last night. Now I can focus on a couple of projects that were simmering on the back burner and start two new ones that need attention.

Had an okay week of viewing. Trick or treat night took up some time and an unexpected accident involving my oldest and his fiancé needed my attention. Thankfully, both are okay and weren't injured in the crash.

I started the week with an episode of Elementary and I also ended the week with one. Both were enjoyable. I thoroughly enjoy the vibe when Sherlock tries to coordinate outfits for Joan. So far, it looks like she ditches those in favor of choosing her own.

Caught an episode of The Batman and enjoyed it. Nice to see Batgirl back in action. I'll be finished with this show at the end of this season and I'm not sure what I'll be replacing it with.

Also watched an episode of Classic Rugrats. The three vignettes were new to me again. I think I'm going to shift back to the new Rugrats once I'm through this season.

Enjoyed another episode of Mr. and Mrs. Murder. I'd seen most of this one before and really enjoyed the snappy and snarky dialog between the characters.

Caught another episode of London Kills and, whew, I got spoiled for what would happen and it still freaked me out. Really like this series.

Finished up season nine of Death in Paradise. Looking forward to season ten even with some of my misgivings with DI Parker. I love this show enough to give him time to grow on me.

Enjoyed the second half of Silent Witness. The show managed to surprise me, and I love it when that happens. One thing to note … I'm always curious about where Jack and Nikki live. Jack had such a cool house during the last season and now he seems to be in a townhouse of some sort. This is after he bought the fixer-upper that his dad and brother (for a while) shared with him. Weird stuff makes me curious.

That's pretty much it for the life update this week. Tonight's post is from Steamed, a sexy short that puts a couple together on a long-range mission.

Here's the miniblurb:

Page Wagner and Gannon Bendis pull long range recon duty and Page decides they need to play truth or strip. After several days of sexy banter, Gannon has enough of Page's innuendo and confronts her … in the shower.

And a sneaky peek…

He might be a keeper.
Page liked him. Gannon had sucked her in with the ripped body, but he had a great personality too. The combination turned her on.
She stalled for a little time. "Gotta shuffle first." She split the deck and filed the cards together.
She'd been with guys whose looks were all they had. Pretty, beautiful men that couldn't do much more than see past their own reflections. And … she'd slept with men whose sense of humor, intelligence, and style drew her attention. Maybe she wouldn't put them in the handsomest or sexiest category, but they were appealing just the same. Her equal opportunity policy extended to sex, too.
But she rarely had the perfect-storm combination of brains and brawn.
Gannon had the highest test score in the squadron. Which she discovered when she snuck a peek at the roster for the mission. She'd rather know up front if she got paired with a dud that would suck any kind of joy out of the mission … or … if she got lucky and landed someone interesting like Gannon.
She wondered how far she could push things with him.
If the universe aligned the way she hoped, all the way to the brink and possibly over. If the stars weren't in her corner, she'd at least enjoy some lively conversation and discussion. Her gut said they'd find a perfect vibe.
Slapping the deck on the small table, she nudged the stack toward him. "By all means, please, go ahead."
He split the cards then leaned back, crossing his arms over his chest.
She put the two piles back together and nodded. "You first."
He turned the top card over revealing a seven of hearts.
Page smirked. "Ah, well, you've got a fifty-fifty chance of me drawing a lower card." But she doubted she would.
Her luck didn't run that way … with a deck of cards.

I love to write variations on a theme, and this is one of my favorite tropes.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Steamed

Happy Boxing Day. Hope everyone who celebrates had a great holiday and everyone who doesn't had a great week.

It's the last Sunday of 2021 and it's been a doozy of a year. Had a very busy week with my middle kid's health issues again, but we're finally closer to getting an actual answer for what's been going on with him. I'll be thankful if we get confirmation.

Slow week for television. I started with the opening arc of season twenty-two of Classic Who. Ended up being a decent four episodes. Six is growing on me.

Finished up Mysteries of Apollo and ended up enjoying this six episode look at the space program. Not sure what new series I'll start this week.

Caught two episodes of The Muppet Show. Melissa Manchester and Tony Randall were the guest stars. I didn't have a chance to watch the Muppet Christmas Carol but I might get it in this week.

Started Fosse Verdon and liked the first episode. This should be an interesting show to dive into. Looking forward to more.

Watched another episode of Peak Practice. Really not sure about the new guy. I can't quite decide if he's desperate, evil or both. So far, I don't like the guy at all.

Enjoyed another lesson of MasterClass with Bill Nye. He's a lot of fun and tackles the serious topic of climate change without making the concept too over the top.

I started season two of The Witcher and loved, loved, loved the first episode. Can't wait to get into more.

Last but not least, I watched two episodes of Classic Rugrats. Both were enjoyable and ones I remembered fondly of watching with my oldest.

That's it for television this week. Tonight's post is from Steamed, a sexy short that got a start with a writing community prompt.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Page Wagner and Gannon Bendis pull long range recon duty and Page decides they need to play truth or strip. After several days of sexy banter, Gannon has enough of Page's innuendo and confronts her … in the shower.

And a sneaky peek…

What a firecracker.

He liked Page Wagner's style. But the woman might prove dangerous to his libido. And not just from her physical appearance. Her dark hair, with short, choppy layers, framed her face and drew attention to the amber color of her eyes. Pilots had to stay in excellent shape so, of course, she maintained peak condition.

But she had something else he valued in a woman. Spark. Witty bold women intrigued him. She projected confidence but didn't take herself too seriously. Very much his type—if he had one. She didn't count as the only equal opportunist when it came to the opposite sex.

She snapped her fingers. "Yo, Gannon. You in?"

He lifted a shoulder. "Sure, why not?" How bad would it be?

Better than watching the pre-loaded video offerings—especially since they hadn't been updated in three years.

Page huffed out a relieved breath. "Whew. Good. Thought I might get stuck playing solitare—and there's no way to liven that game up." She rolled her eyes.

Gannon snorted. "What? You can't figure out a way to get naked playing a single-player game?"

Page smirked. "Oh, I probably could, but where's the fun in that?" She flicked her tongue out. "Ah, I get it. You would enjoy it, but I wouldn't. I see how you are, Gannon."

Gannon's lips curved. "You're the one with exhibitionist tendencies. I'm merely pointing out a way to get your fix." He enjoyed the banter she dished out.

Page tilted her head to one side, studying him. "I have a feeling this is going to be very fun." Her gaze did a slow once-over from his booted feet, along his legs, lingering on his crotch, before finally coming to rest on his face.

His body reacted. Whose wouldn't when a smokin' hot woman showed interest? But he couldn't be certain about what she really wanted. So, he'd play it safe. For now.

Sitting up straight, he tapped the table. "Are you going to let me cut the deck, or not?"

I'm having a lot of fun writing this one. I love having characters who are attracted to each other and finally decide to test the waters.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Steamed

Whew. What a week. Our high school's homecoming is next weekend and we're in a flurry to get the last-minute accessories for the big event. We usually host about six couples each year and we're getting the menu finalized and nailing down who's bringing what. Like I said. Whew.

Had a semi-productive viewing week for television. The season premiere of The Last Ship didn't disappoint. I loved how much exposition they packed into small moments. I'm so excited for the next episode, even though we lost two of my favorite characters.

I caught the second episode of Birds of Prey. Also caught episodes of Pensacola Wings of Gold and Lexx. I'd forgotten what happened during the most recently watched Lexx. Now I need to see the next episode to see what the fallout was. LOL

Caught a classic movie on DVD, Crazy Love. It's a Myrna Loy / William Powell comedy and it was excellent!

Watched another episode of Strike Back. I'm beginning to like how the team is coming together and it was great to have some references back to the previous incarnation of Section Twenty.

Finally, I watched the next to last episode of season six Chicago Fire. I'll be interested to see what happens in the finale.

That's pretty much it. Caught the usual marathons of Murder, She Wrote and In the Heat of the Night along with a mini-marathon of The Saint.

Tonight's post is from Steamed, a sexy short that started with a writing community prompt of having one main character have enough of the other main character's innuendo and do something about it.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Page Wagner and Gannon Bendis pull long range recon duty and Page decides they need to play truth or strip. After several days of sexy banter, Gannon has enough of Page's innuendo and confronts her… in the shower.

And a sneaky peek…

Page Wagner stowed her gear in the duty locker aboard the small cruiser she'd call home for the next week. "Normally, I'd ask who I pissed off to get this temporary assignment." Instead, she said a silent thank-you.
Because… she'd hit the jackpot with partners. Gannon Bendis should be directing their small two-cabin craft to the star system they would be working in right about now. Long-range scan details tended to be boring with lots of charting, recording, and reconnaissance during specific hours and not much of anything else for the duration. She'd gone a full day before being bored to tears—long enough to almost arrive at the location for the scans.
Which meant she could see if any kind of spark existed between her and Gannon. "Not like I don't already have the hots for him." She totally did.
And why wouldn't she?
The man defined the word attractive, at least in her dictionary. About five-ten, with broad shoulders, a defined chest, and arms that made t-shirts look sexy. And his ass? Drool-worthy. Not many people could make fatigues look good, but Gannon absolutely did.
Throw in dark hair and eyes and she might as well tattoo yum on her tongue.
Grabbing a deck of cards, she ducked into the common area and waited for Gannon to secure the cruiser in the specified location. When he entered from the cockpit, she gave him a wide smile. He nodded and made his way to the small food storage area and snagged a quick-heat meal.
Page quirked an eyebrow. "We're all set?" Stupid question, but one to get a conversation rolling.
Gannon gave her a sideways glance. "Would there be a reason we wouldn't be?" He popped the meal into the cooking unit and hit start.
Page's lips curved. "Not particularly. I'm used to flying into an assigned territory instead of flying out." She didn't balk at being relief pilot, but she wouldn't lie either.
Gannon removed the package from the oven and hot-fingered it to the table. "Yeah, we're safe and secure in the first quadrant and I set the modules to record. We'll get an alert if anything pings out there." He peeled the film away from the dinner and the aroma of spicy noodles wafted up from the tray.
Page settled back and shuffled the cards. "And the motion sensors? How far out did you go with the scope?" Mundane topic, but one easily discussed while he ate.
He chewed and swallowed. "Five hundred kilometers in all directions. If we don't get an advance warning with sound, we'll have time to move if we need to." He finished off the entrée and got up to recycle the trash.
Page waited until he sat back down before pouncing with another question. "Care to play some cards?" She shuffled the deck again several times.
Gannon eyes her hands but shook his head back and forth. "Nah. I think I'll grab a book. I brought more than one." He made a move to get up.
Page tsked. "Come on, Gannon. Indulge me." She whipped the cards from one and to the other in slow waterfall. "Let's play truth or strip."
He blinked then frowned. "Such a game doesn't exist." His head cocked to one side. "You're mixing it up, right?"
Page shrugged. "Well, gotta get creative." She shuffled the cards again then set the deck on the table. "Can't do truth or dare because there're only two of us and there's nothing we can dare each other to do." She paused. "Except maybe sending prank messages but, oh, yeah, we're on long-range recon and have to stay radio silent." She flashed a smile.
Gannon nodded. "Okay, point made." He kicked back, folding his arms over his chest.
Page took that a cue to continue. "And strip poker is out of the question." Please take the bait.
Gannon quirked a brow. "Why?"
Page snorted. "Wouldn't be fair."
Gannon reacted by sitting up and placing his forearms on the table. "Why not?"
Page laughed. "You'd end up naked all the time." She paused a moment. "Not that I'd mind. I like eye candy. But I'm nothing if not an equal opportunist." Biting her tongue, she stopped there.
Gannon tilted his head to one side. "You think you're that good?" His tone held plenty of disbelief.
Page tsked. "Not to brag, but, yes. I'm not allowed to sit in at the poker table anymore." She'd been banned within two months of arriving on the Essex.
Gannon settled back in his chair again and kicked his feet out. "Okay, how do you see this equal opportunity nude-fest working?" Clearly, she'd piqued his interest.
Page grabbed the cards again. "Thought you'd never ask." She cut the deck then shuffled. "High card chooses. If you say truth, you have to answer a question honestly. If you don't answer, you have to remove two articles of clothing." Not bad for making something up on the fly.
Gannon considered the rules. "What happens if we decide to pass on answering the question?"
Hmmm. Think fast, Page.
She grinned. "Simple. If either of us passes, we choose which article of clothing the other has to remove."
Score one for the power of creative thinking.

This is a fun little story and I love the dynamic between Page and Gannon. The whole truth or strip trope is something I like to explore as an ice breaker with characters.

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.

Sunday Snippet: Steamed

So… I have the final two episodes of Strike Back waiting to be watched and I'm putting it off. Because I want to savor the last two hours before it's over for good. LOL

Teen Wolf… eh, this past week felt like a bunch of set-up, which is okay, but I'm kind of wanting the new guy to be found out and I really want to know what the hell is going on with Stiles. Here's hoping Monday's episode sheds some light.

The Last Ship continues to keep me glued to the screen. I love everything about this show, the actors, the pacing, the storyline, and most definitely the characters. So much awesome rolled into forty-five minutes. Just saying.

Friday night lineup is still kicking major good vibes. Defiance and Killjoys each turned in superb viewing. Repercussions abounded and I pretty much loved both episodes. Dark Matter also dropped some interesting info bombs, which did indeed tie back to the clues in previous episodes. Really liking the dynamic and the way it changes when new stuff is revealed about the characters.

Tonight's post is from Steamed, a sexy short where my characters figure out a great way to bust up their boredom.

Here's the mini-blurb:

Page Wagner and Gannon Bendis pull long range recon duty and Page decides they need to play truth or strip. After several days of sexy banter, Gannon has enough of Page's innuendo and confronts her… in the shower.

And a sneaky peek…

Gannon entered the head and crossed his arms over his chest. The steam rose and swirled around him, but didn't obstruct his view in the least.
Page turned and tilted her head to one side. "What the hell, Gannon?" She didn't try to hide or duck further into the alcove.
Page had pushed Gannon a little too far and he decided to call her on the bullshit. "If you didn't want me to call your bluff, why didn't you shut the hell up?" His gaze dropped to her feet and traveled upward.
A slow smile curved her lips. "Maybe you're doing exactly what I want." She tilted her head back, letting the water saturate her hair.
Gannon snorted. "Really? Nice try, Page." The bottoms of his workout pants were getting soaked but he didn't care. "You didn't think for one second I'd come find you."
She lifted a shoulder. "No, but I did have hope." Her lips twitched. "Took you long enough. I figured you'd try something last week." She smoothed the liquid from her head, wringing the ends of her hair out.
Gannon dropped his arms. "I'm not just saying something, Page. I'm doing something." He took a step forward.
Page put her hands out. "Come on, Gannon. The game's over. Just some fun to pass the time, right?" She backed up a little, but lowered her arms.
Gannon shook his head. "I don't think so." He moved closer to her, crowding into her space. "You wanted a reaction… you're getting one." If she asked, he would leave, but his gut screamed she wanted him as much as he wanted her.
Page gave him a long considering look, the steam rising in the stall, the water beating down behind her.
Instead of responding with words, she fisted her hand in his shirt and hauled him under the spray. "So, what are you waiting for, G-man?" Her hands pulled the sopping material away from his skin. "Start doing. You've got way too many clothes on for the shower."
This one is so much fun to work on!

That's it for this week. Catch everyone on the flipside.
